Imari DuSauzay is a Brooklyn-born photographer with roots in Jamaica and St. Lucia. Deeply influenced by her grandmother's strength and independence, as well as her experiences growing up in Jamaica, DuSauzay finds beauty in unexpected places. This unique perspective results in images that evoke pure imagination while firmly grounding us in her lived practice.

Her journey in photography began at Brooklyn Technical High School and later flourished at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she studied Photography, Advertising, and Marketing. DuSauzay then earned a Master’s in Media Arts from Long Island University, further deepening her commitment to art education. She actively engages with students through programs like “Studio In A School” and as an educator at Edward R. Murrow High School.

DuSauzay’s work spans a diverse range of subjects, from candid street portraits to notable figures such as Erykah Badu, Albert Watson, and legendary Jamaican reggae artists like Lee Scratch Perry, Israel Vibrations, and Lady Saw, as well as the iconic Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown, and Gordon Parks. In her current series, DuSauzay revitalizes classic portraiture, exploring its significance and relevance in today’s world.

Her work has been exhibited at several prestigious institutions including The Schomburg Center, Brooklyn Museum, MOCADA, Rush Philanthropic, and in Danny Simmons’ Private Collection.
