artist of the month: CAMILLE CLAvery

wonders & adventures

Camille Clavery was born and raised in Brooklyn. Her artistic talent she attributes to many people in her family, but mostly her grandmother who was an artist herself and an amazing seamstress. Camille is mostly a self-taught artist- but was able to work with students and teachers from School of Visual Arts during junior high school. Camille's inspiration largely comes from the fashion industry and fashion and luxury themes are apparent in her work. Her interest in collage developed once she attended Fashion Institute of Technology pursuing a degree in merchandising management. Working in a visuals/set design capacity helped develop the layering techniques she uses in her work.

The summer of 2019, Camille started creating collages in earnest, where she combines her love for fashion and luxury with the importance of centering WOC. She has since displayed her work in multiple shows in NYC, Miami during Art Basel and in Charlotte,

NC. She has volunteered with Beauty For Freedom, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to empowering survivors of human trafficking and youth through the creative arts. This process has shaped Camille's interest in telling the stories of WOC in general but in particular stories of love and relationships. Camille was most recently accepted to her first residency program with ArtCrawl Harlem on Governors Island in August 2024.
